Game Setting & Premise

Players assume the role of Louis de Richet, a member of a secret society, in 1793. Richet is invited to a private island off the coast of England by the enigmatic Lord Mortimer. The gathering includes influential figures such as George Washington and Napoleon Bonaparte. Richet’s primary objective is to investigate the disappearance of his mother, Sarah de Richet, who was also a guest on the island.

• Character Progression & Skills

  The game incorporates a skill tree system with 15 distinct skills across three core branches: Diplomat, Occultist, and Detective. Players choose a starting class (e.g., Occultist) which grants initial skill bonuses. Skill points are earned through dialogue choices, exploration, and completing objectives. These points can be invested to unlock or upgrade abilities such as:

  • Logic: Unlocks new dialogue options and insights.
  • Rhetoric: Improves persuasion and negotiation success.
  • Vigilance: Reveals hidden clues and opportunities.
  • Psychology: Uncovers character motivations and weaknesses.
  Skills influence available dialogue options, puzzle solutions, and potential outcomes during confrontations.

• Confrontation System

  Key narrative moments are presented as "Confrontations." During these sequences, players engage in timed dialogue battles, using their acquired skills and knowledge of other characters' vulnerabilities to achieve objectives. Failure in a Confrontation does not end the game but leads to alternative narrative paths.

• Permanent Consequences

  Choices made throughout the game have lasting impacts on the story and characters. Decisions, successful or failed skill checks, and confrontation outcomes can alter relationships, unlock new areas, and determine the ultimate fate of Louis de Richet and other characters. There are no "game over" states; instead, the narrative adapts to player actions.

• Resource Management

  Players manage "Effort Points," a limited resource used to activate certain skills during dialogue and investigations. Replenishing Effort Points requires specific items found within the environment or via character interactions.
