Overview:
Lost in Random is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Zoink Games and published by Electronic Arts. Players navigate a dark, gothic fairytale world where the future of its citizens is determined by a roll of a die. The game features a unique blend of combat, platforming, and puzzle-solving elements within a distinctive art style.
Gameplay Mechanics:
The core gameplay revolves around Even, the protagonist, and her companion Dicey, a small sentient die. Combat is a real-time affair with a tactical layer:
- Weapon Cards: During combat, players collect energy from defeated enemies, which can be used to roll Dicey. The outcome of Dicey's roll determines the number of 'card points' Even receives.
- Card Deck: Even possesses a deck of cards representing various weapons, abilities, and traps. These cards can be played using the acquired card points. The deck can be customized and upgraded throughout the game.
- Real-time & Slow-motion: Combat sequences involve real-time movement and dodging, interspersed with strategic pauses when Even rolls Dicey to play cards.
World and Exploration:
The game's world is divided into six distinct realms, each influenced by a specific number on a die and ruled by a unique monarch. Even traverses these realms, from Onecroft to Sixtopia, encountering a variety of characters and challenges. Exploration involves:
- Platforming: Navigating diverse environments using Even's movement abilities.
- Puzzles: Solving environmental and logic-based puzzles to progress.
- Story Progression: Uncovering the mystery behind the Queen of Random's reign and Even's quest to rescue her sister.
