Setting and Narrative:
The game is set in the industrial, plague-ridden city of Dunwall. Players navigate a world combining steampunk aesthetics with supernatural elements. The narrative progresses through a series of missions where Corvo targets individuals involved in the conspiracy against him and the Empress.
Gameplay Mechanics:
- Stealth and Combat: Dishonored emphasizes player choice in approaching objectives. Missions can be completed through lethal or non-lethal means. - "Chaos" System: Player actions influence the game world through a "Chaos" system. Lethal playthroughs and excessive violence result in high chaos, leading to more guards, more prevalent plague, and different narrative outcomes. Non-lethal approaches maintain low chaos.
- Exploration and Level Design: Levels are designed to offer multiple pathways and verticality, encouraging exploration and diverse tactical approaches. Secrets, collectibles (Runes, Bone Charms), and side quests are integrated into the environment.
